Flora and Merle Foster

Merle Homer, son of Jesse and Mary (Bowyer) Foster was born October 14, 1906 near Ellsbury, Missouri. The family returned to Paxton, Illinois the following year. Early in 1924 they moved to Manchester, Ohio by train and boat. Flora Ann Wilson was born  1913 at Peebles, Ohio to Albert (Bert) and Alice (Stephenson) Wilson. They were both born near Locust Grove. Merle and I met at the home of Daddy's brother Marshall Wilson near Sinking Spring, August 1927, the beginning of a lasting relationship. We were married June 28, 1931 at the home of Carl Smith, minister. We were both members of the Peebles Church of Christ--the oldest couple in the church now. Merle has been a deacon since 1965. When asked where we went on our honeymoon, I asked, "Who needed a honeymoon on a 200 acre island with no neighbors?" Our transportation was a row boat and walking. Our first child, Carolyn Jean was born 1935 near Seaman where we farmed with Merle's parents. Wynona Ellen, born 1937 and Willard Berton (Bill) 1946, both on Measley Ridge, near Peebles.  Jean and John McCarty (Jack) were married 1958 at the Church of Christ, David Phillips, minister. Their daughter, Karen Lynn, is the wife of Daniel Baker of Fort Wayne. They have two children, Jonathan and Bethany. Mary Ann and Terrence Davisson were married at the Peebles Church of Christ. Son David William is a Computer Assistant in Los Angeles. Wynona and Harold Lewis married 1956. Son Harold Ray married Anita VanZant, living with son Brian in Hillsboro. Judith married David Meeker, parents of three sons, two daughters living in North Carolina. John Edward was born 1972, lives with us because his mother died November 7, 1972. She was buried at Jacksonville Cemetery. John is a sophomore, active in church, school and community. Bill went to Greenville to work after graduation. He married Dolores Peters, daughter of Earnest and Ruth Foster Peters. Sons - Terry, Tony and Troy. Tony and Brenda are parents of Anthony, the first great-grandson to carry on the Foster name. Terry and wife expecting soon. Theodore Vernon was born 1953 at my parents' home. He was active in church and school. Both Bill and Ted played in the Peebles Band as I did. The three McCartys and the three Foster boys were in bands, too. Ted went to college, taught at Happy Hours School for the Handicapped, worked at Woodland Alters Camp and was house parent at the children's home in West Union until he began working at WRAC - Radio Adams County before they started broadcasting. Ted is involved in many community activities. Our family enjoys getting together for holidays and birthdays and especially the annual Foster Reunion. Submitted by Flora Foster.
