Edward A. Crawford

FINAL SUMMONS Answered by E.A. Crawford, Jr., After a Brave Struggle

Edward A. Crawford, Jr., a nephew of E.A. Crawford, editor of this paper, died about seven o'clock last Friday evening at the home of his father-in-law, John Boldman.

The deceased was a victim of that dread disease, tuberculosis, and had been gradually failing in health for several years. At the recent election, he was the Democratic candidate for Recorder of Adams County, and the exposure he met with during the campaign likely hastened his demise. He was down in town as late as Tuesday of last week, but it was noticed that he was in a very feeble condition at that time.

Edward A. Crawford was born in Monroe Township May 16, 18__ and was the youngest son of the late John A. and Sarah A. Crawford. His mother died when he was a mere child and his father followed before manhood years were reached.

Notwithstanding these and many other misfortunes of life, he always maintained a cheerful, hopeful and pleasing disposition, even in the deepest hours of his distress and when the certainty of death overshadowed him.

At 16 years of age he became a member of the Christian Union Church where he was want to exercise that enthusiasm that marked all of his undertakings.

In his last hours he gave a fitting testimonial to his faith in Almighty God repeating over and over scriptural quotes with a smile.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Boldman Crawford, who so earnestly and patiently cared for him, and one sister, Mrs. Linnie Lathorp, and a large circle of relatives and friends, the other immediate members of his family having preceded him in death, awaiting and watching on the opposite shore to greet him in the celestial home.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the residence of Mr. Boldman, and the large attendance at his obsequies, in spite of the inclement weather, attested the high esteem in which he was held by our citizens. The services were conducted by Rev. E. H. Lucas and burial was made in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
