James A. Cooper


James A. Cooper, 66, of Stout, died Tuesday at Scioto Memorial Hospital. A native of Salima, on Twin Creek, he served in the Army infantry in World War II and was a carpenter, serving as local representative of Carpenters Union Local 437 for 20 years before retiring in 1985. He was a special deputy in the Scioto County Sheriff's department, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of James Dickey Post American Legion, Peebles Masonic Lodge in Peebles, Wheelersburg Eastern Star and other Masonic bodies. Surviving are his wife, Aurella Cornwell Cooper; two sons, James E. Cooper of West Union, and Richard Cooper of Alexandria, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Harlan [Sandra] Terry of Sciotoville and Pam Cooper of Stout; his stepfather, Everett Lewis of Portsmouth; a brother, Jonas Cooper of Stout; four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Hakala and Mrs. Irene Schalek; both of Waukegan, Ill.; Mrs. Zetta Young of Dry Run, West Portsmouth, and Mrs. Betty Caldwell of Portsmouth; and six grandchildren. Service is Friday at 1 p.m. at Brock Funeral Home, with Pastor Gregory Cooper officiating, and burial in McKendree Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where an Eastern Star service is planned at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Thursday.
