DeKalb Grimes


DeKalb Grimes, 68, of West Eighth Street, Manchester, a retired school teacher, passed away Tuesday night at the Veterans Hospital, Cincinnati, where had been a patient since August 13. Prior to that he had been a patient in Adams County Hospital. Born October 12, 1892, in Adams County, he was a son of the late Martha and Aseal Grimes. He retired from active teaching in 1958, after 45 years. His first teaching assignment was at Lick Skillet Rural School in Sprigg Township, and he was a mathematics teacher in Manchester High School for 23 years. Mr. Grimes was a World War I veteran, having attended field Artillery Officer's School at Louisville, KY. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Manchester, the F. and A. M. Lodge and Royal Arch Masons. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mable Grimes, and a son, Capt. Bill Grimes of Monterey, Calif., and two grandchildren. Funeral services will he held Friday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. at the Ellis Funeral Home in West Union. Friends may call after noon tomorrow (Thursday).
