Omar Marshall McCann

Omar Marshall McCann, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. McCann, was born at Martin, Ky., May 27th, 1892, died January 1st, 1906.

While in infancy, was baptised by Rev. T. B. Stratton. The family moved to Ohio in 1899. While quite young Omar became interested in his soul's salvation and at the age of eight years united with the M. E. church at Pleasant Bottom under the charge of Rev. Chas. Kelch. All through life he manifested a deep interest in the work of the Sunday school. His life was one of perfect trust in Christ.

When the end was near, he bade his parents good-bye and said: "I am not afraid to die. I am trusting in Jesus." Omar had superior talents for one so young, particularly his oratorical powers, many times leading some of his seniors in exhortations of faith and patience. As a scholar, he was above average, bright and intelligent, a favorite among his schoolmates.

His relations and friends in whose memory Omar will never die, join in tears of sympathy for the bereaved family thus bereft of so rich a treasure and their own loss of a kind and loving friend. The funeral occurred on Wednesday, January 3rd, at 10 a.m. at the home of the parents which was filled to overflowing with friends of the family. Rev. J. M. Bennet pastor of the M.E. church, conducted the services. His life and death will help the cause of Christ and Omar, though dead, yet speaketh.

The midnight stars are beaming
      Upon his silent grave,
Where he is sleeping without dreaming,
The one we could not save.

We know that he has found a home,
      Above that never dies,
And soon his voice will bid us come,
And meet him in the skies.
