P. G. Simmons



P.G. Simmons was born October 10, 1836 and departed this life January 27, 1916, aged 80 years, 3 months, and 17 days. He was the third son of William and Slama G. Simmons and was united in marriage to Leah Jane Spurgeon, February 6, 1862, to this union were born ten children, three sons and seven daughters, John W. of Peebles, Ida M. Viers, of Tranquility, Anna A. White, of Dayton, Manda A. Tovelle, of Chillicothe, Rose I. Kennedy of Dayton, Effie A.Garman of Sinking Springs, Curtis E. and Blanchard J. Simmons, of Peebles, Myrta S. Simmons, of Dayton and Velva Gustin, of Seaman. He united with the German Baptist church of May Hill in early manhood and lived a consistent member throughout life. His wife proceeded him in death September 2, 1911, having lived almost 50 years in loving companionship together. After her death, he made his home with his youngest daughter, Velva Gustin, until a few days before his death, he was at the home of Curtis, when he took the grippe and pneumonia and only lasted but a few days. He was one of a family of nine children, seven brothers and two sisters, one brother and one sister left behind, ten children, thirty-seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren to mourn his loss. The services were conducted by Rev. Van Wright and Rev. Anderson and then he was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Tranquility cemetery. There to await the resurrection of the blessed dead.
